Move classroom students and save learning tags
Use My classrooms to add a current or past cohort to a free community, save learning tags, and optionally email students.
In this article
From My classrooms, a run's assigned instructors and admins can add its students to a community they own or teach in, save learning tags, and optionally email a community link. Current and past classrooms both offer this workflow when you have the required role.
Choose the class and destination
- Find the run under Current or Past classrooms.
- Expand Move students to a community or tag them.
- Choose the destination Community, such as AI for a Claude for Work class.
- Enter optional comma-separated tags under What they learned, such as
claude, ai, connectors. - Review the email option, select Move students to [community name], and confirm the named class and community.
A move adds memberships and links the community to the classroom. It does not transfer workshop enrollment or relocate chat history. It uses the run's active and completed enrollments at the time you submit; later students are not added automatically.
Paid communities cannot receive free moves. Existing active members keep their membership and role. Students who previously left can be added again; people removed by community staff stay removed.
Save tags without moving anyone
Choose Don’t move — only tag students, enter tags, and select Tag students. Tags are saved on students for future recommendations; this does not create a new recommendation page or send an email.
Tags are normalized to lowercase, spaces become hyphens, and duplicates are removed. Up to 12 tags are retained, each up to 32 characters. Use specific learning topics rather than personal or account information.
Decide whether to email students
After choosing a community, Email students a link is selected by default. Clear it for a move without email. If selected, you can add a Note from you of up to 1,000 characters.
The first emailed move for that classroom and destination includes eligible roster students who are active members after the move, including existing members. Later emailed moves target only students newly added in that move, including those re-added after leaving. Removed members and unsubscribed recipients are skipped.
Check the result
Read the added and emailed counts and the recent history beneath the classroom. Membership changes can succeed even if email fails. If zero emails were sent, a later emailed move can try the whole eligible group again; after a partially successful send, do not assume repeating the move retries every missed recipient.
For a classroom link without tags or email, use Connect your classroom to a community.
