Moderate classroom messages
Use reply, pin, and delete controls during teaching, and understand how automatic safety checks handle classroom messages.
In this article
Hover over a classroom message to find its available actions. Instructors can reply, pin messages, and delete any message in their classroom. These controls help you answer questions and manage the conversation during teaching.
Reply where the question was asked
Use Reply in thread to open the thread panel and answer a specific message. Keep follow-up explanations there so students can read the original question and your response together.
When several students are working on the same exercise, name the step or result you are addressing. This makes an answer easier to follow without adding unrelated conversation to the channel.
Pin useful messages
Instructors have a Pin action on classroom messages. Use it for instructions or explanations you want to highlight for the group. Choose messages that remain useful as students work through the class.
For the class prompt itself, use #prompts, where the prompt appears as a card with a day tag and a Copy prompt button. Read Share prompts for each class day for that workflow.
Delete messages when needed
People can delete their own messages. Instructors and moderators can delete any message in the classroom. Check the message before choosing Delete, especially when similar questions appear close together.
Understand the automatic checks
Obvious abuse is blocked instantly. Every message also receives an automatic safety check after it is posted. That check hides abusive or harmful messages, along with scam or spam messages that contain links.
Links are allowed in classrooms. A message containing a link can still be hidden when the safety check identifies it as scam or spam. Continue checking classroom conversations as part of teaching, using the available moderation controls when needed.
