# Survey potential learners before you build

A short research survey can reveal the tasks, constraints, and starting skills your explainx workshop needs to address. Ask about real behavior before asking for opinions on an idea.

## Ask focused questions

1. What task are you trying to improve?
2. What did you try most recently?
3. Where did the process break down?
4. What tools can you access?
5. What would a useful output look like?

Keep contact details optional unless they are needed for an agreed follow-up. Explain how responses will be used.

## Read for patterns

Group responses by problem and prerequisite. Separate a common task from a request that only fits one organization. Invite willing respondents to a short conversation when an answer needs context.

## Use the findings

Change the scope, examples, or prerequisites based on repeated evidence. A survey response does not enroll someone or subscribe them to unrelated updates. Coordinate the survey and any follow-up communications with the explainx team.
