# Moderate members in a teacher community

Community owners, instructors, and moderators can use member moderation controls for people with a lower community role. Open **Community menu → Members** and use the moderation menu beside the person.

## Choose mute, kick, or ban

- **Mute for 1 hour**, **Mute for 1 day**, or **Mute for 7 days** temporarily prevents participation while retaining reading access. **Unmute** ends a mute early.
- **Kick (can rejoin)** ends membership now. The person can return through an allowed joining route.
- **Ban from community** removes the person and prevents rejoining until staff lift the ban.

Check the person's name and the community before confirming. Kicking or banning removes event RSVPs and ends any staff role there. It requests cancellation of future community subscription renewal, rather than issuing a refund.

A moderator can act on members, an instructor can act on moderators and members, and an owner can act on lower roles. You cannot moderate yourself or another owner using these controls.

## Lift a ban

Use **Lift ban** in the person's moderation menu. This makes rejoining possible; it does not automatically restore active membership or a previous staff role. The person must use an available invitation or joining option, with any payment requirements still applying.

Removed members are not restored by classroom Join links or **Add all students**. Review the access issue with your teaching team before lifting the restriction.

## Report a serious issue to explainx

Authorized community staff can select **Report to explainx…**, choose the reason, and add relevant details. Reasons include spam, harassment, scams, inappropriate content, and other issues. Include enough context for the team to locate the problem.

This sends the issue to explainx for review. It does not itself ban an account across the platform or promise a response time. Members can use content reports to reach their community team or contact [support](/help/articles/getting-help).

## Review conversations separately

Use **Community menu → Moderation** for content reports. Staff can pin, close, hide, and restore community conversations. See [spaces and discussions](/help/articles/community-spaces-and-discussions).

Only community owners and instructors may share links in community posts and replies. These posts do not use the classroom held-link review queue. Classroom removal, moderators, and imported text review have [their own guide](/help/articles/moderate-classroom-messages).
