# After class: keep your students learning

After class, give students a clear practice task, point them to their recordings and certificate steps, and choose whether to bring the cohort into a community. Use [My classrooms](/classrooms) to find both current and past runs.

## Close the learning loop before moving the cohort

1. Answer outstanding doubts and post a short recap of the work students practiced.
2. Check that any recording you announce is available through **Recordings** in the classroom header. Follow [Find and share workshop recordings](/help/articles/workshop-recordings).
3. Point students to the certificate flow in their workshop dashboard. It checks completion of every non-cancelled session through live attendance or recording completion, requires workshop feedback, and asks students to confirm their certificate name. See [Find your workshop certificate](/help/articles/workshop-certificates).
4. Choose one next exercise students can attempt independently.

Finishing the live class does not by itself issue every student's certificate. Keep your wrap-up tied to the steps shown in their own dashboard.

## Choose a community that fits the next exercise

For example, students from **Claude for Work** could continue practicing in an **AI** community you own or teach in. Explain what they can do there before adding them. Use [Create your teacher community](/help/articles/create-teacher-community) if you need a destination, and [community copy templates](/help/articles/community-and-move-email-templates) to describe it.

1. Open [My classrooms](/classrooms) and locate the run under **Current** or **Past classrooms**.
2. Expand **Move students to a community or tag them**.
3. Select the destination **Community** and review the email choice before submitting.
4. Confirm the named class and destination, then check the result and transfer history.

The move adds current roster students as community members and links the community to the classroom. It preserves workshop enrollment and classroom history. Existing active members keep their roles; students who left can be re-added, while people removed by community staff stay removed. Later enrollments are not added automatically.

Paid communities are unavailable as move destinations: this action cannot grant paid membership for free. Share the paid community's page so students can review its terms and join through the appropriate flow.

## Record the topics students actually practiced

1. In **What they learned**, enter relevant comma-separated tags, such as `claude, ai, connectors`.
2. Use **Don’t move — only tag students** if you only want to save learning topics.
3. Select **Tag students** and confirm the class.

Tags are saved for future recommendations. They do not currently provide a recommendation page or trigger a recommendation email. Choose topics from the taught material, not personal details or assumptions about learners.

## Make the optional move email useful

After selecting a community, **Email students a link** is checked by default. Clear it if you do not want an email, or add a **Note from you** of up to 1,000 characters with one suggested next activity.

The first emailed move for a class and destination targets eligible roster students with active destination membership after the move, including existing members. Later emailed moves target students newly added or re-added in that move. Unsubscribed or otherwise suppressed recipients are skipped. A tag-only action sends no email.

Read the added and emailed counts separately: membership can succeed even if email fails. Repeating a partially successful send does not guarantee every missed recipient is retried. Use [Move classroom students and save learning tags](/help/articles/move-classroom-students) for the detailed rules.
