# Instructor roles and classroom badges

A run can have several instructors. The explainx team assigns them in admin, and each assigned instructor shows an **Instructor** badge in that run's classroom.

## Arrange the instructor assignment

Ask the explainx team to assign the instructors who will teach the run. Give them the correct run and instructor accounts so the assignment matches the cohort you are preparing to teach.

When [your run proposal is approved](/help/articles/review-run-proposal), you are automatically assigned as an instructor of the new run. Coordinate any additional instructors with the team.

## Read the classroom badge

The badge follows the instructor assignment for that run. Assigned instructors show **Instructor**, even when they are also an owner or admin. Everyone else shows **Member**.

Check the specific run when reviewing a badge. Teaching one run does not make you an assigned instructor in every other run. An owner or admin who is not assigned as an instructor shows Member in that classroom.

## Understand editing access

Only that run's assigned instructors and admins can edit its sessions. If you are joining as another instructor, confirm your assignment with the team before trying to update the schedule, Zoom details, or recordings.

Use [Manage your run's sessions](/help/articles/manage-run-sessions) for the fields you can edit. When several instructors teach together, agree who will update each day's details to keep the schedule clear.

## Create and connect communities

Only instructors, admins, and owners can create communities. From the run page, the Communities panel lists communities you own or teach in. See [Bring run students into your communities](/help/articles/connect-run-communities) for classroom links and adding current students.
