Teachers can create a community on explainx for ongoing questions, discussions, events, and shared resources. Sign in with your explainx account and open [Create a community](/communities/new). The account that creates it becomes the owner.

## Set up your community

1. Enter a **Community name** that your learners will recognize.
2. Add a **Description** explaining the topic and who belongs here. This description can appear on your public profile if you publish one later.
3. Use **Member notice** for practical instructions: where to ask questions, what to include, or your next office hours. This notice is for members.
4. Choose a **Community color**, then select **Create community**.

Your community starts private and unpublished. You get three spaces: **Announcements**, **Introductions**, and **Questions & ideas**. You can change the name, description, member notice, and color in **Settings**.

## Prepare the first conversations

Open **Conversations** and select **Write a post**. Add an introduction in Introductions and a short announcement telling members where to ask for help. A useful first question could be: “What are you trying to build this week, and where are you stuck?”

Keep the initial structure small. [Organize spaces and discussions](/help/articles/community-spaces-and-discussions) when you need a separate place for projects, feedback, or a specific topic. Use **Resources** for material people will need again and **Events** for scheduled sessions.

When you are ready, [invite learners and your teaching team](/help/articles/community-invitations-and-roles). For a community people can find and join themselves, [publish a public profile](/help/articles/publish-community-profile).

## Choose between a community and a classroom

A teacher community has its own membership and can continue across workshops. You manage who joins it. Your existing [workshop classrooms](/help/articles/classroom-overview) belong to individual workshop runs and use their enrollment rules.

Creating a community does not move classroom conversations or automatically add your workshop learners. Eligible paid workshop enrollment can be offered as a joining option when you [configure paid community access](/help/articles/paid-community-memberships).

Return through [My communities](/communities) to open the communities you have joined or manage. Public **Questions** are a separate area: check where you are posting before sharing anything intended only for your learners.
